Community Commitments
As the long-term operators of the projects we develop, First Wind is committed to mutually beneficial partnerships with both the communities we work in and our stakeholders.
Economic benefits accrue to communities through property tax arrangements, increased income from land leases with local landowners, and increased local business activity to support development, construction and operations. In addition, First Wind frequently sponsors important local organizations and events.
First Wind employees also take an active role in community service. At our Cohocton project, team members volunteered at the Lighthouse Food pantry to help prepare and serve 200 turkeys we donated. A team of employees from our Boston headquarters volunteers annually with the Earthwatch Institute and the Charles River Conservancy for a local conservation project. And our Hawaii team recently sponsored and volunteered with the Surfrider Foundation for the Haleiwa Beach Clean Up. Employees at multiple First Wind offices have created fundraising teams for local events benefiting the American Cancer Society.
While we strive for effective and meaningful community engagement, we are receptive to feedback from community members about how we can do better.
