Why Wind?
High fossil fuel costs and growing concerns about global warming has many utility companies, government agencies and local communities turning to wind power as an energy solution. Wind power is a clean, renewable energy source that uses no natural resources and emits no greenhouse gases or pollution. Communities from coast to coast have embraced wind farms as an environmentally friendly source for energy. Wind farms also can create economic benefits.

Wind power’s diverse benefits include:
  • Generating power without air or water pollution
  • Reducing harmful fossil fuel emissions
  • Conserving valuable water resources
  • Adding new revenue to local communities
  • Creating local job opportunities in construction and long-term operations and management
  • Helping America gain energy independence and diversity by decreasing the need for fossil fuel imports
  • Preserving local lands while creating a new energy source
  • Protecting sensitive habitats through carefully sited wind farms, supported by comprehensive environmental studies
  • Offering an environmentally friendly energy alternative
  • Assisting utility companies in meeting renewable energy mandates

Every megawatt-hour of electricity generated by a wind turbine offsets the equivalent of 1,100 to 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide.
