| Boston, MA – May 21, 2010 – The 17th annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest will return to DCR’s Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston on May 22, 2010, from Noon to 5:00 pm, with a stellar line-up that includes headliner Collective Soul, the Gin Blossoms, Crash Kings and Marcy Playground. Presented by Whole Foods Market, the free festival is a celebration for the Earth, showcasing national and local music acts, environmentally friendly products and local non-profit environmental organizations. Radio 92.9’s EarthFest is produced in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. The DCR’s Hatch Memorial Shell and surrounding Esplanade area is a renowned venue for free events and programs in the city of Boston and is celebrating its Centennial season in 2010. The Radio 92.9 EarthFest is the first major event of the season. The event is expected to draw a crowd of more than 100,000 people. Understanding that a large gathering can impact the environment, Radio 92.9 is implementing a host of environmental programs designed to minimize any negative impact. A comprehensive recycling program will be managed by Casella Waste Systems and First Wind will provide Renewable Energy Certificates that will offset the nonrenewable fossil fuels used in the production of the event. Mass Bike and International Bike Center will be onsite staffing a free bike-valet program, offering concertgoers an alternative to driving to the festival. In addition to the musical performances on the main stage, the Radio 92.9 Earthfest will also feature Kids’ Planet – an expanded interactive family area. Kids’ Planet will feature a stage with a wide variety of musical acts and entertainment as well as environmental activities and educational displays. Activities in Kids’ Planet will begin at 10 a.m. “The 17th annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest is meant as a celebration, honoring all of the individuals who are making a commitment to conserving and protecting the Earth’s resources,” said Ken West, program director at Radio 92.9. “This free event will help celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and remind people that even in tough economic times, it’s important for all of us to remember that we have a role in preserving the planet for generations to come.” The 2010 Radio 92.9 EarthFest is committed to offering festival goers an opportunity to learn how they can make a difference and help save Planet Earth. The festival will feature exhibits and environmental displays, staffed by sponsors and non-profit environmental organizations from New England. Each exhibitor is focused on raising awareness and offering educational information about different environmental issues facing the planet. Musical performances on the main stage will begin at 12:00 noon. The 17th Annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest is also accessible by MBTA. Concertgoers can take the Green Line to Arlington Street or take the Red Line to Charles Street / MGH. For more details, visit the MBTA website at www.mbta.com.
