| Boston, MA—May 11, 2010—First Wind, an independent U.S.-based wind energy company, today announced the addition of Pat Wood, III to the company’s Board of Directors. Mr. Wood brings with him an impressive record as Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from 2001 to 2005 and the Public Utility Commission of Texas from 1995 to 2001, and is actively involved with a number of private companies and projects to increase clean power generation, independent power transmission and natural gas facilities. “Pat’s remarkable list of achievements is matched with his strong advocacy for competitive sources of clean energy, which aligns well with our business model of developing, building and operating independent U.S.-based wind energy projects,” said Paul Gaynor, CEO of First Wind. “Pat is an outstanding addition to our very talented Board of Directors. His expertise in all phases of energy infrastructure – from siting to developing to owning projects – will be beneficial as First Wind looks to develop new projects.” While serving as FERC Chairman, Mr. Wood led the response to the 2000-2001 California energy crisis, the 2003 Northeastern power blackout, and the significant rise in fuel prices during his tenure. At the Texas PUC, he successfully introduced competition and deregulation to the wholesale and retail electric power industries in what is widely regarded to be the most robustly competitive energy market in the country. More recently, Mr. Wood led a successful effort with Sharyland Utilities and wind developer Airtricity to develop transmission in the Texas Panhandle which will attach 10,000 MW of new generation resources. He remains involved with Sharyland/Hunt Transmission in the development of energy infrastructure. Mr. Wood also serves as a strategic advisor to Natural Gas Partners, a private equity firm, and is an independent director of five infrastructure companies including SunPower, Quanta Services, Xtreme Power Solutions, Range Fuels and TPI Composites. He is a member of the National Petroleum Council and is on the Board of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE). Until January 2008, Mr. Wood led the North American Advisory Board of Airtricity. Based in Houston as Principal of Wood3 Resources, Mr. Wood holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University in civil engineering and is a graduate of Harvard Law School. He has worked as an assistant project engineer for Arco International in Indonesia and as an attorney at the Washington, D.C. offices of Baker & Botts law firm. He was also legal counsel to Commissioners of the FERC and the Railroad Commission of Texas.
